JAKARTA - PDI-P (PDIP) said that the 6th President of the Republic of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) had excessive concerns without being based on facts.

This statement was conveyed by the Secretary General of PDIP Hasto Kristiyanto in response to SBY's claim that information on the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres) would be regulated. In the end, said SBY, there are only two presidential and vice presidential candidates who will be able to enter.

SBY's statement during the National Leadership Meeting (Rapimnas) appeared on social media. SBY, who serves as Chairman of the Democratic Party's High Council, said that the presidential and vice presidential candidates who will advance later are the figures they want.

However, it is not mentioned who their figure is. SBY only said that he was ready to go down the mountain to face the 2024 election.

"What Mr. SBY said by accusing without fact seems to be a regulated partner and then Democrats as the opposition set up a scenario that cannot nominate (the president, ed), it shows excessive concern without facts," Hasto said at an online press conference on Sunday, September 18.

Hasto said that even if there are only two candidates in the upcoming 2024 contest, it will be due to the presidential threshold or threshold. In this system, anyone who will advance need minimal support from 20 percent of seats in parliament.

The system, continued Hasto, was also initiated and mutually agreed upon during the SBY administration.

"So excessive suspicion is not conducive in our national political climate. Moreover, Mr. SBY conveyed the official forum for the National Leadership Meeting of the Democratic Party," he said.

Hasto Kristiyanto reminded the importance of the presidential threshold. He reviewed how the government of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in the first period, when support in parliament only reached a threshold.

At that time, said Hasto, President Jokowi's government was like a tsunami in democracy. The reason is that the voice of the people who support the former Governor of DKI Jakarta was not accompanied by parliamentary support.

Until finally, Jokowi's government and his deputy, Jusuf Kalla, had to consolidate politics at the beginning of his term of office.

"We understand a father (wanted, ed) to encourage his son, for example. But, we have to look at the existing constitutional mechanisms," said Hasto.

"That there is a presidential threshold which is a constitutionally legal provision and must not be contested.
