Demomed By Hundreds Of People As A Result Of Lukas Enembe Being A Suspect, The KPK Is Not Involved

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is not afraid to investigate the alleged corruption that ensnared Papua Governor Lukas Enembe. Despite demonstrations from its supporters, the KPK will not stop the investigation.

The demonstration took place on Monday, September 12 at the Mako Brimob Polda Papua. At that time, Lukas should have been investigated by investigators but was not present for reasons of illness.

"It was a demonstration of around 400, 500 residents who then expressed their aspirations for the KPK to stop the investigation and not criminalize the person concerned," said KPK Deputy Chair Alexander Marwata to reporters at the KPK's Red and White Building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Thursday, September 15.

"I convey to the Papuan people and anti-corruption activists and officials there, the KPK has never criminalized someone or an official," he continued.

Alexander emphasized that the determination of Lukas as a suspect was in accordance with the available evidence. The KPK is certain to have evidence from the testimony of witnesses and documents.

"We believe that a criminal incident has indeed occurred which is suspected to have been the suspect that we have determined," he said.

As previously reported, the KPK confirmed that it had named Papuan Governor Lukas Enembe as a suspect. The case that ensnared him has not been detailed, but the incumbent governor has been prevented from going abroad for six months.

The Directorate General of Immigration said the prevention was requested by the KPK for six months. Lukas was prevented until March 7, 2023.

"The Directorate of Immigration Supervision and Enforcement (Ditwasdakim) of the Directorate General of Immigration has received a prevention application to the subject on behalf of Lukas Enembe," said Director of Immigration Supervision and Enforcement I Nyoman Gede Surya Mataram in a written statement, Monday, September 12.
