Anies Baswedan Renamed Kota Tua Jadi Batavia, PDIP: He Wants Tokir History, Minimum History Change Name

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan named the Kota Tua area as Batavia. The chairman of the PDIP faction of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Gembong Warsono, questioned Anies' urgency to change the name.

"What's the urgency? When asked about the urgency, I said there was none," Gembong told reporters, Tuesday, September 13.

Gembong suspects that the naming of Kota Tua as Batavia was deliberately carried out by Anies to leave his legacy so that his name would still be remembered after his term of office ends on October 16.

"The problem is this is a matter of legacy. This is subjective, because at the end, of course, he wants to make history, at least his history has changed names," said Gembong.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chairperson of the DKI Jakarta DPRD from the Gerindra faction, Rani Mauliani, views that changing the name of Kota Tua to Batavia is Anies' right as regional head.

Anies Baswedan must know that Batavia's name was once rejected by the Governor-General of the VOC, Jan Pieterszoon Coen. More can be read in the articles we have written.

"The name change is back, the governor's prerogative. We'll see what the legal umbrella looks like. If you just change your name but don't change it-that, go ahead, it's the same as a healthy home," said Rani.

Previously, Anies named Kota Tua as Batavia. This area, according to Anies, will be designed as part of the city of the future.

Anies said the DKI Provincial Government had converted the Kota Tua area which was previously intended for motorcycles or cars to pedestrians and cyclists.

Anies said that since February 2021, the DKI Provincial Government has implemented a low emission zone (low emission zone) policy in the Kota Tua area as an effort to create a future city.

We want to build this area as a unit, where pedestrians are prioritized. So there is no strata here," he said.
