JAKARTA - The Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra) Regional Police have secured dozens of heavy equipment in protected forest areas in Morombo, Langgikima District, North Konawe Regency some time ago. This heavy equipment that was secured is strongly suspected to be related to mining activities. Director of Ampuh Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra) Hendro Nilopo appreciated the performance of the Southeast Sulawesi Police. However, according to Hendro, the performance of the authorities does not stop there alone. Companies or owners of heavy equipment must be hunted too. "In our opinion, don't just arrest the equipment as much as possible, but the owner and perpetrator must also be arrested and prosecuted immediately. Especially then that new information we can get an individual who then removes the police line at the location," explained Hendro when contacted by VOI from Jakarta, Sunday, September 11. On this case, the Ampuh will also travel to the National Police Headquarters to take case experts, conduct further investigations. "Our goal is to go to Jakarta to oversee this issue, ask the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police to take case experts, conduct an investigation. That is our goal," said Hendro. Regarding how many protected forest areas were damaged by these heavy equipment, Hendro could not confirm. If possible, his party will deploy members to the location to conduct an investigation. "Our main focus is only to guard. However, we also do not rule out the possibility to carry out direct investigations into the field. For prosecution is in law enforcement, we leave it entirely to law enforcement," he asserted. Asked further about the peilk of heavy equipment and mining activities, Hendro did not want to suspect, because his authority was with the police. He just wants future generations in North Konawe to feel no bad impact due to the protected forest that is destroyed. "Moreover, we know that North Konawe also often floods. As a son of the region, I don't want North Konawe to become a flood subscription, or future generations affected by this mining activity," said Hendro.
