JAKARTA - An explosion occurred at the Command Headquarters of the Water and Air Police Directorate of the Southeast Sulawesi Police this morning. The explosion is thought to have originated from 30 jerry cannium nitrics stored in an explosives warehouse.
Director of Polairud Polda Sultra, Kombes Suryo Aji, said that there were dozens of jerry cans containing a mononium nitrics (a material commonly used by fishermen to make fish bombs) explode is evidence of a criminal case that has been transferred to the Kendari District Attorney's Office because it has entered phase II.
"It is true that (the explosion) occurred at 04.15 WITA, we have transferred this status to the prosecutor's office stage II. Because they (the prosecutor's office) did not have a warehouse for storage, they entrusted it to us," said Kombes Suryo Aji, quoted from Antara, Thursday, September 8.
Suryo explained that the evidence of thenium nitric should have been entrusted to the Kendari State Depository and Confiscation (Rupbasan) because it had entered phase II. However, Rupasan Kendari refused to accept the evidence.
Responding to this, the Ditpolairud Polda Sultra took the initiative to create a special warehouse to secure the evidence while waiting for the trial decision of the case.
"Because the prosecutor's office does not want to keep it, it is returned again, entrusted to us to Polairud. Rupasan does not want to accept entrusted items like this. When they do not want to receive or store these items, we make a special warehouse for evidence of explosives that are usually used by fishermen," explained Suryo.
Regarding the cause of the explosion of dozens of jerry cans containing a mononium nitric which is the material for making fish bombs, Suryo admitted that he did not know and was still waiting for the results of the investigation from the Inafis Team of the Southeast Sulawesi Police.
"The evidence that we have just recorded is around 30 jerry cans, the others are still trying to calculate while working together with Inafis at the same time to be able to conclude what the cause is. I don't dare to guess, guess, let Inafis have the authority," said Suryo.
Until now, the media crew have not been allowed to enter the scene of the case because the Inafis Team of the Southeast Sulawesi Police is still investigating the crime scene.
