JAKARTA - The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy/Tourism and Creative Economy Agency is collaborating with the European-ASEAN Business Council (EU-ABC). This collaboration was established to advance the tourism sector and the creative economy in Indonesia after the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a meeting with the EU-ABC delegation at Balairung Soesilo Suharman, Sapta Pesona Building, Menparekraf Sandiaga Uno said that during the COVID-19 pandemic, there were several achievements in the development of the country's tourism sector.

One of them, Indonesia managed to rise 12 places from 44th to 32nd in the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI) ranking issued by the World Economic Forum (WEF).

"We managed to get through Malaysia and Thailand. This is arguably one of the achievements in the Indonesian tourism sector during the pandemic", said Minister Sandiaga Uno, Friday, September 2.

Not only that, but Indonesia also managed to rank first out of the 50 most beautiful countries in the world according to Forbes.

"For 18 months we shifted the focus of tourism development towards sustainable and quality tourism and we prioritized issuing policies that were right on target, right on benefits, and on time", he said.

In addition, in the creative economy sector, Indonesia is the country with the third largest creative economy contribution in the world. Where the first place is occupied by the United States with the Hollywood and South Korean film industry in second place with K-Pop.

"So I hope we can collaborate to produce solutions that in the future can develop the Indonesian tourism sector in a more positive direction", said Sandiaga.

In response to this, the Deputy Chair of EU-ABC, Tassilo Brinzer, said that his party is ready to collaborate with the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy to develop the Indonesian tourism sector to make it better.

"I'm sure there will be many opportunities for us to work together and support each other to advance the Indonesian tourism sector", said Brinzer.
