BEKASI - The Bekasi Metropolitan Police have arrested three perpetrators of violent theft specialists who have committed crimes in dozens of locations. "They usually act in West Cikarang, Tambun, Cibitung, and other areas. When they see the target, they do not hesitate to injure their victims," said Bekasi Metro Police Deputy Chief AKBP Erick Frendriz when releasing the case at the West Cikarang Police Headquarters, Antara, Monday, August 29. The three perpetrators each with the initials MF (21), MD (18), and YR (17) had carried out their actions 40 times in four months in 68 different areas. There have been dozens of motorbikes looted. Based on the police report reported by six victims of motor vehicle theft, the police then conducted a search and investigation of the case. "Sometimes they steal if the target motorbike is in the rented house, sometimes they also take it forcibly while injuring the victim who was found on the road," said the Deputy Chief of Police. In the last action before being arrested by the police, this gang of thieves managed to take a motorbike belonging to a porridge maker who was about to go selling on Jalan Soekarno Hatta, Kertamukti Village, Cibitung District, Bekasi Regency, on Monday, August 8, 2022. "Before taking the action, this gang had identified the victims of the porridge maker who were targeted. At what time did he leave the house, at what time did he go home. It was mapped (stalled) and some time later they took action," he explained. The stolen motorbikes were then sold by the suspect to two intermediaries in the Karawang Regency, West Java. The two intermediaries have also been arrested by the police. The three suspects were charged with Article 365 of the Criminal Code regarding theft with violence which carries a maximum sentence of nine years in prison. Meanwhile, two intermediaries are subject to Article 480 concerning the detention of goods resulting from crimes with a maximum sentence of four years in prison.
