Catholics are also asked to participate in maintaining the sovereignty, security, and interests of the Chinese people. Religious organizations in China must obtain approval from local authorities under the Communist regime. Local authorities do not want religious organizations in China to have alliances foreignly, including the Catholic community that coincides with the Vatican.
