Transfer Functions Into Competition Lands, Luwu Regency And North Luwu Compulsors Of Largest Mangrove Damage In South Sulawesi

MAKASSAR - Luwu and North Luwu regencies are the biggest contributors to mangrove damage in the South Sulawesi region.

"Mangrove conditions with a total area of 45.46 thousand hectares are divided into three, namely good, moderate and damaged. Most of these damaged are in Luwu and Lutra Regencies," said Head of Marine Space Management and Planning, Coastal and Small Islands, South Sulawesi Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Service, Dr Siti Masniah Jabir, quoted by Antara, Saturday, August 27.

Based on mangrove data from 24 regencies/cities in South Sulawesi in 2021, the mangrove area was recorded at 45,464.5 ha. From the mangrove area, 22,550.9 ha were damaged.

Meanwhile, of the damaged mangroves, Luwu Regency contributed 7,771.75 ha and North Luwu covering 6,429 ha of mangrove damage.

According to Masniah, the damage to mangroves is one of the reasons for the conversion of land into a competition area.

This was confirmed by academics from the Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University Prof. Dr Yusran Yusuf.

He said that land conversion is the biggest obstacle in the field, in addition to problems related to weather factors.
