JAKARTA - Commission II of the House of Representatives considers the General Election Commission (KPU) to be inconsistent because it proposes that the regional head election or pilkada be accelerated to September 2024.

In fact, the government, DPR and KPU as election organizers have agreed that the legislative and presidential elections will be held on February 14, while the regional elections will be held on November 27, 2024.

"It is not consistent with the previous argument," said Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the House of Representatives, Saan Mustopa, to reporters, Friday, August 26.

Saan emphasized that the agreement on the presidential election was held in February 2024 so that the time was not too tight with the election in November.

Moreover, said Saan, the agreement began when the presidential election was scheduled to be held in May 2024. However, because the distance was too close to the November election, the decision was taken to hold a simultaneous survey in February.

"One of the reasons for the KPU is that the distance between May and November is too close, so there is a potential for the stages to overlap with the ongoing stages in the general election with the stages in the regional election," said Saan.

"Right now, we have agreed on the election in February. If it is withdrawn to September, it will be the same as the first consideration from May to November. It means that the distance is the same," said the NasDem politician.

Likewise, technically the implementation, according to Saan, will have consequences because the two democratic parties will be held at a close distance.

"Technically the time is too tight. There will be many consequences," said Saan.

Previously, KPU chairman Hasyim Asyari proposed that the regional head election or Pilkada be held in September 2024. Whereas in Law Number 10 of 2016 concerning Regional Elections Article 101, voting is scheduled for November 2024. H

"Maybe later the KPU will submit only one proposal, for the election of the regional head election to go forward to September 2024," said Hasyim in a discussion entitled "Welcoming the 2024 Election: Preparedness, Anticipation and Projection" which was broadcast through the BRIN Indonesia YouTube channel, Thursday, August 25.
