PALEMBANG - The Palembang Besar Resort Police (Polrestabes) and South Sumatra Police have exposed the practice of playing online gambling under the guise of an internet cafe (warnet).

The Head of Criminal Investigation at the Palembang Polrestabes Kompol Tri Wahyudi said the internet cafe that facilitates its customers to play online gambling is located on Jalan KH Wahid Hasyim, Tuan Kentang Village, Seberang Ulu 1.

"From the residents' complaints, we followed up, it turned out to be true, then a raid operation was carried out on the Gaza Warnet in Seberang Ulu 1 on Monday (22/8) night," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 24.

According to Kompol Tri, during the raid operation, his personnel found as many as seven residents who were playing online gambling using internet cafe computers freely.

The seven perpetrators arrested were Jerry (35) and the owner of the internet cafe, Andri (31), Hamza (31), M Agus (33), Baharuddin (27), Nirwan (49), and Sandi Kurnia (28).

Of the seven perpetrators, he said, one of the last is a woman. All of them were immediately arrested and taken to the Palembang Police Headquarters for further investigation.

“Those who work as laborers, construction workers, and also some who are unemployed can freely and openly gamble from a PC (computer) in an internet cafe. The gambling sites they play are Bento88, Bangsawan88, IBETSLOT, INGATBOLA88," said Kompol Tri.

The police also confiscated as many as six units of LCD monitors, eight CPU units, nine Bank BCA savings books, three Bank Mandiri savings books, eight Bank BNI and Bank Maybank savings books, four gadgets, two laptops, 11 ATM cards, and two units. VR CCTV.

For these actions, the perpetrators are suspected of violating Article 27 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 45 paragraph (2) and or Article 50 in conjunction with Article 34 paragraph (1) of Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE), with the threat of punishment imprisonment for a maximum of 10 years and a fine of Rp 10 billion.
