MEULABOH - The West Aceh District Prosecutor's Office received a refund of state losses in the case of alleged corruption in the construction of a language laboratory at the local Education Office amounting to Rp258,686,000 which was handed over by the family of the suspect who had previously been detained.

"The money deposited to recover the state's financial losses was handed over by one of the suspect's families," said the Head of the West Aceh District Attorney's Office, Firdaus in Meulaboh, as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 24.

Firdaus explained that the money returned by the corruption suspect was in accordance with the amount of state financial losses based on the calculation results of the Aceh Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) received by the West Aceh Kejari on August 3, 2022.

After receiving the return, the investigative team within 1x24 hours immediately deposited the money into the West Aceh Kejari deposit account at Bank BSI Meulaboh Branch through the treasurer of the West Aceh District Prosecutor's Office.

According to him, the process of depositing the money does not result in the disappearance of a criminal act committed by the corruption suspects.

This is as stated in Article 4 of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption, as amended by the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 20 of 2001 concerning Amendments to the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 31 of 1999.

In the article it is stated that the return of state financial losses or the state's economy does not eliminate the punishment of the perpetrators of criminal acts as referred to in Articles 2 and 3.

However, said Kajari Firdaus, the return of state financial losses by the corruption suspect is one of the considerations for the public prosecutor and judge during the trial.

"After receiving the refund of state losses, the investigative team will also immediately complete the examination of the suspects and compile case files so that they can be immediately transferred to the Corruption Court in Banda Aceh," said Firdaus.

The budget for the language laboratory development project in West Aceh Regency is sourced from the 2020 Aceh Special Autonomy Fund (DOKA) with a work contract value of IDR 3,485,987,000.
