JAKARTA - A foreign citizen (WNA) from China, Chen Yongtong (34) admitted to burning his fake Mexican passport to eliminate traces of inspection from Immigration officers in Indonesia.

"Based on the information and examination of Chen Yongtong, the passport in question was burned", said the Immigration Investigation Coordinator at the Directorate of Immigration Monitoring and Enforcement of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkum HAM), Hajar Aswad, as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 24.

Chen Yongtong is a Chinese citizen who is currently being held at the Class I State Detention Center in Central Jakarta on suspicion of using a fake Mexican passport to enter Indonesia.

The immigration officer also did not find any traces or remnants of the passport that was burned by the foreigner from China. However, based on crossing data and the immigration system, officers managed to find and match Chen Yongtong's ID which had been secured by officers.

"Physically we did not obtain the relevant travel documents. Based on the results of the examination, his passport was burned", said Aswad.

Chen Yongtong entered Indonesia on January 16, 2022, using a Mexican passport with a tourist visit visa for business together with Wu Jinge (36) who was also secured by immigration authorities.

From the immigration officer's investigation, it was found that both of them deliberately entered the country using fake passports and made Indonesia a transit country. The motive is to go to a third country, Canada.

"Indonesia is a transit country for them, then they continue to return to a third country, Canada", he said.

Based on the immigration explanation, foreigners who want to enter Canada need several stamps from other countries so they cannot enter directly, especially from Mexico.

The two foreigners from China are suspected of deliberately entering Indonesia with fake passports so that their trip to Canada can run smoothly.
