KPK Calls Unila Chancellor Allegedly Has Received IDR 5 Billion

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) suspects that the Chancellor of the University of Lampung (Unila) Karomani (KRM) received bribes of around Rp. 5 billion.

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has named KRM along with Unila's Deputy Chancellor for Academic Affairs Heryandi (HY), and Unila Senate Chair Muhammad Basri (MB) as suspected recipients in the alleged bribery case related to the admission of new student candidates at Unila in 2022. While the provider is the private party Andi Desfiandi ( AD).

"All the money that KRM collected through Mualimin (lecturers) from the parents of prospective students who were graduated from KRM amounted to Rp. 603 million and has been used for KRM's personal needs of around Rp. 575 million," said Deputy Chairman of the KPK Nurul Ghufron during a press conference at the KPK Building, Jakarta. , Sunday.

In addition, he said, the KPK also found some money that KRM received through the Head of the Planning and Public Relations Bureau of Unila Budi Sutomo and MB from the parents of prospective students who were graduated from KRM who were also on KRM's orders.

"The money has been converted into savings deposits, gold bullion, and is also still stored in cash with a total of around IDR 4.4 billion," said Ghufron.

Thus, the total money allegedly received by KRM is around Rp. 5 billion.

Furthermore, he mentioned that in 2022, Unila as one of the state universities will participate in organizing the National Selection for State Higher Education Entrance (SNMPTN). In addition to SNMPTN, Unila has also opened a special path, namely the Independent Selection to Enter the University of Lampung (Simanila) for the 2022 academic year.

"KRM, who serves as Unila Chancellor for the 2020-2024 period, has the authority, one of which is related to the mechanism for implementing Simanila," said Ghufron.

During the Simanila process, the KPK suspected that KRM was active to be directly involved in determining the graduation of the Simanila participants by ordering HY and Budi Sutomo and involving MB to participate in personal selection regarding the ability of students' parents.

"If you want to be declared passed, you can be assisted by submitting a sum of money other than the official money paid according to the mechanism determined by the university," he said.

In addition, KRM is also suspected of giving special roles and tasks to HY, MB, and Budi Sutomo to collect an amount of money that was agreed with the parents of the selection participants who had previously passed based on the assessment that had been arranged by KRM.

"Regarding the nominal amount of money agreed between the KRM parties, it is suspected that the amount varies with a minimum range of IDR 100 million to IDR 350 million for each parent of the selection participants who want to graduate," said Ghufron.

KRM also allegedly ordered Mualimin to participate in collecting some money from the parents of the selection participants who wanted to be declared passed by KRM.

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said that AD as one of the families of the prospective Simanila selection participants allegedly contacted KRM to meet with the aim of handing over some money because his family members had passed Simanila with the help of KRM.

"The next Mualimin, on the orders of KRM, took a cash deposit of Rp. 150 million from the Army in one place in Lampung," said Ghufron.
