JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) hopes that the suspect in the alleged bribery of land conversion, Surya Darmadi, can be investigated next week. This hope emerged after the owner of PT Duta Palma Group was not examined because of illness while undergoing examination at the Attorney General's Office.

"We hope that in the next few days, there will still be a day tomorrow. Hopefully next week the investigation will be ready," said Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the KPK Karyoto at the KPK Red and White Building, South Jakarta, Friday, August 19.

The KPK, said Karyoto, understands Surya's health condition. According to him, the examination which was supposed to be scheduled for today had to be postponed and could not be forced.

"It's useless if it is forced, the first one must be the lawyer objecting, the second the minutes under coercion will definitely be invalid," he said.

As previously reported, the AGO has named Surya Darmadi as a suspect in the alleged corruption of money laundering and the seizure of 37,095 hectares of palm oil land in Indragiri Hulu Regency, Riau. He was named along with another suspect, Raja Thamsir Rahman who is a former regent of Indragiri Hulu.

After the determination of the suspect, Surya was summoned by the Attorney General's Office three times. However, he was absent because he was abroad, before finally giving himself up upon arrival at Soetta Tangerang Airport from Taiwan on August 15.

Meanwhile at the KPK, Surya Darmadi was named a suspect three years ago. This decision was made after investigators developed a case against former Riau Governor Annas Maamun.
