Putri Candrawathi Charged With Premeditated Murder In Brigadier J's Case, Komnas Perempuan Respects Investigator's Authority

JAKARTA - The National Police Headquarters Timsus has named Putri Candrawathi (PC) as a suspect in the case of Brigadier J's murder. Similar to her husband, Inspector General Ferdy Sambo, Putri is charged with Article 340 of the Criminal Code regarding premeditated murder of a subsidiary to Article 338 of the Criminal Code regarding intentional murder in conjunction with Articles 55 and 56 Criminal Code.

The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) together with Komnas Perempuan reminded that the rights of Putri Candrawati must be respected and fulfilled by the state.

"We hope and recommend that the rights of Mrs. PC as a woman in conflict with the law be respected and fulfilled by the state," said Komnas Perempuan Commissioner Siti Aminah Tardi in Jakarta, Antara, Friday, August 19.

After being named a suspect, Komnas Perempuan said there were a number of rights regulated in the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP).

First, the right to self-defense, the presumption of innocence, the right to legal assistance as a process of self-defense, the right to give information without any pressure, the right to be free from torture and inhuman treatment, the right to be free from entangling questions and the right to health.

In general, said Siti, Komnas HAM and Komnas Perempuan respect the authority of investigators who named Putri Candrawati as a suspect in the case of the death of Brigadier J.

"Of course the determination of this suspect has gone through a long process," he said.

In line with that, another Komnas Perempuan Commissioner Theresia Iswarini said the agency together with Komnas HAM encouraged the assistance of psychologists and psychiatrists for Putri Candrawathi.

In addition to being part of the recovery of women who are in conflict with the law, from the beginning of the legal process to the trial and after the court's decision, this assistance is possible.

"The goal is to expedite this case," he said.

Komnas HAM together with Komnas Perempuan will conduct monitoring to ensure that the state through law enforcement officers fulfills and respects the rights of the wife of Inspector General of Police Ferdy Sambo as a woman in conflict with the law.

Regarding further investigations, Komnas HAM and Komnas Perempuan will continue to process and coordinate with various related parties.
