298 MSMEs Register Brands With The Ministry Of Law And Human Rights Of West Sumatra Throughout 2022, The Majority Of Culinary Businesses

SUMBAR - The Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of West Sumatra (West Sumatra) noted that throughout 2022 there were 298 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) that had applied for registration of business marks.

"Brand registration aims to provide convenience in business and obtain legal protection for registered business marks," said Head of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of West Sumatra, R Andika Dwi Prasetya, in Padang, West Sumatra, quoted from Antara, Friday, August 19.

Andika said this after holding a ceremony to commemorate Dharma Karya Dhika Day (HDKD) 2022 which is the anniversary of the birth of the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights.

He said, of the 298 those who had applied for registration, the majority were SMEs in the culinary and food fields.

"Some of the trademarks that are submitted are currently being processed, at least from the registration stage until the trademark is issued, it will take about nine months," he said.

However, he continued, protection for business marks has been attached since the trademark was registered with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights so that it cannot be registered by other parties.

He said that registered trademarks will get convenience in doing business because they get legal protection, and are not imitated or used by other parties.

Andika stated that his party will continue to provide support to MSMEs in the local province by providing easy services in accordance with the direction of the Indonesian Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasaonna Laoly.

The Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia through the Director General of Intellectual Property also applies a special tariff for MSME actors who want to register a trademark, namely Rp. 500 thousand which is considered cheaper than general registrants who reach Rp.

"We are committed to continuing to support the growth, protection, and development of MSMEs in order to support economic recovery. West Sumatra is an area that has great potential in the MSME sector," he explained.

He said that in the future his party will cooperate with local governments in order to allow the implementation of a zero rupiah tariff for MSME players who want to register their trademarks.

On the other hand, the West Sumatra Ministry of Law and Human Rights throughout 2022 also received other registrations in the field of Intellectual Property (KI) services, namely 1,742 copyright registrations, and 10 patent applications.
