SUMBAR - Fishermen who were reported missing while at sea in Tampa Padang waters, Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi Province (West Sumatra), were found dead.

Head of the Basarnas Operations Section of Mamuju Regency Muhammad Faturahman said the fisherman, named Syahruddin (38), was found dead about 300 meters from the missing location.

"The fisherman was reported missing since yesterday (Wednesday 17 August) and today, at around 11.18 WITA, he was found about 300 meters from the location where the fisherman was suspected to have disappeared," said Faturahman in Mamuju, West Sumatra, quoted from Antara, Thursday, August 18.

The fisherman's body, a resident of Kalukku Subdistrict, Mamuju Regency, was immediately evacuated to the Tampa Padang Health Center to be handed over to his family.

"With the discovery of these fishermen, the search for missing fishermen in the waters of Tampa Padang has been stopped. We express our gratitude to all elements of the SAR and the community who helped search for the missing fishermen," said Faturahman.

Previously, Syahruddin was reported missing while going to sea on Wednesday, August 17 at around 06.30 WITA, but at around 11.00 WITA another fisherman found Syahruddin's boat drifting in the sea.

A number of fishermen and residents then conducted a search, but were unable to find Syahruddin, so the incident was immediately reported to the Mamuju Basarnas Office.

"The victim is thought to have fallen from the boat and then drowned," said Faturahman.

After conducting a search, the joint SAR team on Thursday, August 18, managed to find Syahruddin dead, about 300 meters from the location where the victim's boat was found.
