JAKARTA - Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, reminded that future national development should be integrated between the central and regional governments. This step had to be taken because currently there is an impression that development only goes from project to project.

This was conveyed by Puan during a speech at a joint session of the DPR RI and DPD RI today, Tuesday, August 16. He reminded that development in Indonesia must prioritize the interests of the people.

Initially, Puan revealed that it is currently difficult for national development to be sustainable and seems short-term oriented due to Law Number 17 of 2007 concerning the National Long-Term Development Plan for 2005-2025.

This legislation, he continued, was deemed not optimal in regulating national development issues.

"In fact, every president, governor, and regent/mayor has their own development vision and mission," said Puan in her speech.

Not to mention if the president or regional head changes because of the end of the leadership period. In the end, there was a change in vision and mission.

"This reality makes it difficult for the national development of the Indonesian nation to be sustainable, short-term oriented, with different levels of national interest so that it seems that national development is only project to project," he said.

So, he asked that future development should continue to be integrated. All central and local governments must work together to realize the progress of the nation.

Puan said this step needs to be done so that the community can be more prosperous. "Political development in the future should be able to integrate all regions, all central and regional governments, in realizing people's welfare, national progress, and national culture," he said.

Not only that, the strategic agenda in the future must be sharpened on the development of national quality and character. Then, bureaucratic reform must be implemented.

"The strategic agenda in the future needs to strengthen and sharpen efforts directed at: development of the quality and national character of Indonesian people; development of national food sovereignty; strengthening of national industry; equitable distribution of infrastructure development; and real bureaucratic reform," concluded Puan.
