SURABAYA - A truck operator died when a container was crushed by a container at the PT Berlian Jasa Terminal Indonesia (BJTI) depot, Jalan Prapat Kurung Selatan, Tanjung Perak, Surabaya.

Head of Public Relations (Humas) of PT BJTI, Budi Hermawan, informed that the victim who died as a result of the work accident was Imam Kastiawan, aged 47.

"We convey our deepest condolences. BJTI management will take full responsibility," he told reporters in Surabaya as reported by ANTARA, Monday, August 15.

The work accident occurred this morning at around 09.45 WIB.

The victim, Imam Kastiawan, was in the truck when a container suddenly fell on him, allegedly as a result of his detachment from the hook while being transported by a container crane, also known as the Reach Stacker.

However, BJTI has not been able to confirm whether the fall of the container was caused by the release of the hook.

"We are from BJTI internally conducting an investigation to find out the cause," said Budi.

According to him, an internal investigation by BJTI was carried out together with the Tanjung Perak Port Surabaya Resort Police (Polres).

"The results of our internal investigation will later be submitted to the Surabaya Tanjung Perak Port Police," he said.

BJTI, said Budi, will follow the rules of the Surabaya Tanjung Perak Port Police, which is also conducting an investigation.

"So later the results of the investigation will be the authority of the Tanjung Perak Port Police who will announce it," he said.

Senior Vice President Medical of Primasatya Husada Citra Hospital (PHC) Surabaya, Dr. Rini Murtisari, stated that he had received the arrival of the body of the victim Imam Kastiawan at around 11.00 WIB.

"So, when he arrived at the PHC Hospital, he was already dead. After that, a post-mortem will be carried out by a forensic specialist before the burial of the body," he said.
