BRIN Explores Sensor Development Cooperation With Murata Japan

JAKARTA - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is exploring cooperation in the development of sensors with Murata Japan, such as sensors to detect vehicle traffic density which can be processed for strategy recommendations to break down congestion.

“Sensors for detecting and counting vehicles, whether cars, motorcycles, bicycles, or humans. The Murata Group that came this time is related to business units and developments in the internet of things (IoT) and traffic counters," said the Head of the BRIN Electronics and Informatics Research Organization, Budi Prawara, as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, August 15.

Budi said that the sensor developed by Japan's MURAT has been used by the DKI Jakarta Government. Several sensors have been installed in Jakarta and in the future, there will be a large number of sensors installed in Jakarta.

From these sensors, data on the number of vehicles and vehicle speed can be obtained. Some of the data is temporarily used by the DKI Jakarta Government to control the management of the Implementation of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM).

"In the future, we can collaborate with the DKI Jakarta Government," he said.

By using data analysis technology and machine learning, the data collected by sensors can be processed and used to unravel congestion in Jakarta.

According to him, in the future, these data can be used to predict congestion, break up congestion, and regulate vehicle movement. “We can regulate the movement of vehicles from Bogor to Jakarta, for example, when is the best and right time. From Bekasi to Jakarta, when is the best time," he said.

Budi said there are a number of opportunities that can be explored, such as integrating sensors with traffic lights using IoT, developing applications that can be installed on the mobile phones of road users.

"So they can monitor the road situation before leaving and get information on the best route to where they can get to their destination and avoid traffic jams," he said.

Budi said that in the future BRIN could collaborate and develop other sensors according to Indonesian characteristics, such as the Bio Sensor which has been developed by BRIN researchers for health detection.

"We can collaborate with MURAT which is also very advanced in the field of sensors," he said.

MURATA is experienced in creating various components, such as resistors, inductors, capacitors, to various Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) products.
