Floods In Parigi Moutong: 30 Residents Refuge, Men Guard House Worried About Thieves

SULTENG - Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Parigi Moutong reported that around 30 residents of Torue Village, Central Sulawesi (Sulteng), were displaced by the aftershocks of flooding.

Secretary of BPBD Parigi Moutong Moh Rivai said that the men who were affected by the floods who lived in their homes did not evacuate to prevent the theft. "A total of 30 women and children took refuge in the village office. there are certain people who take advantage of this situation to steal," said Rivai when contacted, Sunday, August 14. He revealed that dozens of residents at the evacuation post had been given ready-to-eat food, including residents who stayed at home.

Some residents assisted by volunteers also began cleaning their houses from puddles and mud from the flood on Sunday, August 14 in the afternoon. It was previously reported that aftershocks accompanied by mud submerged residential areas in Hamlet 2, Hamlet 3 and Hamlet 5 in Parigi Moutong Regency on Sunday, August 14 at around 13.00 WITA.

As a result of this natural disaster, the flow of vehicular traffic was cut off because the water flow was quite heavy.

He explained that currently the disaster response status is still valid in Torue Village, because the local Government (Pemda) has issued a policy of extending the emergency response response from 12 August to 12 September 2022. He added that the logistics needs of the affected residents are still a priority. However, the availability of stock at the command post is still sufficient. "We have arranged the distribution of logistics so that it is distributed evenly," said Rivai, according to Antara. "The government has consistently supported the affected people and prioritized their basic needs," he said.
