Fishing Will Be Regulated Despite Abundance In The Ocean, Minister Trenggono: If Free, Poor Our Grandsons

JAKARTA - To maintain the sustainability of fisheries in Indonesia, fishing must be measured and with quotas.

"Fishing must be measured, it can no longer be free," said Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono in Indramayu, Friday, August 12 when inaugurating the refrigeration warehouse.

According to him, when fishing is not measured, it is feared that in the future, capture fisheries production in Indonesia could continue to decline.

And even Trenggono, is worried that his children and grandchildren will no longer be able to enjoy fish, so there needs to be restrictions on fishing, so that production can increase.

"Because if they are free, it's a pity that the next generation will run out, so it must be measured," said Trenggono as quoted by Antara.

Trenggono said that Indonesia's marine capture fisheries production in a year can reach 12 million tons, so what can be taken is only around 80 percent.

Of this amount, 65 percent is given to industry, while 35 percent is allocated to traditional fishermen.

"If our sea produces 12 million tons, then 80 percent of what can be taken, 65 percent of industry and 35 percent are traditional fishermen," he said.

It is hoped that this policy will not be contested by fishermen because it is all done to maintain the sustainability of marine life.
