MATARAM - The Mataram City Government invites residents to collect crackle plastic waste to be used as a hot mix asphalt mixture so that the waste becomes economically valuable.
"The use of crackle plastic waste as a hot mix asphalt mixture is in accordance with the central government's instructions," said Head of the Mataram City Environment Service (DLH) HM Kemal Islam in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), quoted from Antara, Friday, August 12.
He said the government through the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) had conducted studies and research on the use of plastic waste as a hot mix asphalt mixture.
Therefore, now the contractors who won the tender for the construction of new roads will be asked to buy plastic waste to be used as a mixture of asphalt as well as efforts to reduce environmental impacts.
"This policy is a solution for handling crackle plastic waste, because so far the processing of crackle waste has not been optimal. If these crackles are disposed of, they cannot decompose," he said.
To follow up on the policy, he said, DLH immediately coordinated with the Mataram City PUPR Service regarding the government's instructions.
The reason is that at the integrated waste processing site (TPST), the officers have made a selection of crackle plastic waste that is stored in sacks.
"If there are many, we will immediately press for space efficiency," he added.
However, Kemal does not yet know how many tons of crackle plastic waste have been collected in a number of TPSTs in Mataram City.
"In principle, if there is coordination with PUPR, and a contractor wants to buy it, we are ready to issue it. For the price, so far we don't know exactly," he said.
