Assertive! Central Java Police Chief Asks For Mitigation Of Fuel Leakage In Cilacap Immediately

SEMARANG – Central Java Police Chief Inspector General Pol Ahmad Luthfi confirmed that his party would back up mitigation efforts related to Pertamina's fuel leak in Cilacap. This was conveyed by him when receiving a visit from the Executive General Manager of Pertamina Patra Niaga Central Java, Dwi Puja Ariestya, and his entourage in the Regional Police Chief's Office on Monday, August 8.

On this occasion, Dwi Puja Arestya reported the chronology of events and coordinated with the Central Java Police regarding the handling of fuel pipe seepage that occurred in Lengkong Village, Cilacap Regency.

Responding to this, the Regional Police Chief requested that the mitigation of leak handling be carried out immediately before it has an impact on the environment and society.

"For this reason, the Cilacap Police will be backed up by the Central Java Police to secure and support these activities," explained Ahmad Luthfi.

During the meeting, it was explained that PT Pertamina and related parties had carried out various handling and mitigation efforts to overcome seepage caused by the leak of the Cilacap - Bandung fuel pipeline.

"As a mitigation effort, we have prepared a team and coordinated with the Regional Environment Service and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources," said Dwi Puja Arisetya.

Previously, it was reported that the Pertamina fuel pipe in Jeruklegi District, Cilacap leaked, Wednesday, August 3 morning. As a result of the leak, the flow of the Jambu River around the area turned black and smelled of fuel.

The oil spill in the Jeruklegi River caused fishermen to be unable to catch fish because they were worried that the fishing gear used was damaged by liquid oil.

Dwi Puja said that related to residents' complaints, his party opened a complaint post in collaboration with the police.

"In addition to handling the leak, Pertamina and the Cilacap Police have also opened a complaint post for the community due to the incident. Located at the Jeruklegi Police," he said.
