Solo Psychiatric Hospital Fire Kills 2 Patients, Police Waiting For Crime Scene Investigation Results To Conclude The Cause

SOLO - The fire that hit the Regional Mental Hospital (RSJD) Dr Arif Zainudin Solo has been extinguished. Regarding the cause of the incident, the Surakarta City Police are still waiting for the results of the Central Java Police case.

"We are still waiting for the results of the investigation at the crime scene by the Central Java Police Labfor Team to be able to reveal the cause of the fire at Dr. Arif Zainudin Hospital," said Head of the Satreskrim Polresta Surakarta Kompol Djohan Andika, in Solo, Monday.

Djohan Andika said that his party had to prove it scientifically. "So we cannot assume and must comply with the facts on the ground. We have not determined whether there is a human error or not, we are waiting for the laboratory results first," said Djohan.

According to Djohan, what is clear is that the fire occurred from the Puntadewa Psychiatry Room at the RSJD in Surakarta.

Djohan said his party had examined five witnesses in the fire case. The five witnesses included three guards on duty at the time of the fire, one security guard and one guard officer from another ward.

Surakarta Police Chief Kombes Pol Ade Safri Simanjuntak said Surakarta Police investigators are still investigating the fire in the Puntadewa Psychiatry Room at Dr Arif Zainudin Hospital Surakarta, which occurred on Friday, August 5, at around 03.30 WIB.

The fire incident at the RSJD in Surakarta caused the death of two patients. The two patients were, respectively, on behalf of Yoga Rizkiawan (33) and Yoga Aprianto (30). Meanwhile, three other victims were injured.

According to the police chief, from the results of the investigation, it was known that there were nine patients who were sleeping in the room.

A total of seven people sleep in the lobby of the room and the remaining two in the isolation room. The duty officer had time to control the fire location, because one of the patients had his hands untied.

The police chief explained that from the results of the witness examination in accordance with the applicable standard operating procedures (SOP), the nine patients slept with their hands and feet tied. After that, he returned to his guard place.

After that, said the Police Chief, there was an explosion and when the officer checked the location, the ceiling was already on fire. Officers then made a standby effort.

One person took out the patients one by one. However, the officers wanted to open the isolation room, the conditions were no longer possible, because the fire was getting bigger.

The fire incident at the Surakarta Hospital was able to be controlled by the Surakarta City Fire Department, one hour later.
