JAKARTA - Volunteers at Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park (TNGGP) in Cianjur, West Java, managed to lower 150 garbage bags from the top of the mountain and the hiking trails left by irresponsible climbers.

Public Relations of TNGGP Cianjur, Agus Deni in Cianjur, said that the clean operation will be carried out together after the closure of the route on August 14 to 24, 2022, involving various groups, including officers and volunteers who have been on duty at the entrance of the climb.

"Volunteers and officers managed to unload 500 kilograms of various types of waste while carrying out a cleaning operation (option) which was held before the closing of the hiking trail. Most of the waste collected was of plastic used to wrap instant noodles," he said, quoted by Antara, Saturday, August 6.

TNGPP, said Agus Deni, appealed to climbers not to leave any kind of trash, including underwear which is still widely found because the rules require them to maintain the cleanliness and beauty of the national park by not leaving the slightest trash.

TNGGP Cianjur volunteer, Niko Rastagil, said that the one-day option that was held with residents, officers, GPO volunteers and nature-loving organizations in Cianjur, managed to bring down 150 sacks of garbage which, after being weighed, weighed 500 kilograms.

"The group of volunteers conducts sweeping from the top of the mountain to the entrance of the climb. We are divided into several groups, so that we can maximize the collection of garbage left by climbers," he said.

Until now, the level of awareness of climbers, especially beginners is very low because they still leave trash from the hiking trail to the top of the mountain and the Suryakancana square which is used to set up a tent before heading to the summit.

"Various warnings have been given when climbers report at the climbing entrance to comply with all applicable rules. If not us, who else will maintain the cleanliness and natural beauty that we always visit, don't leave trash when climbing," said Niko Rastagil.
