CIANJUR - Two fishermen were reported missing by the waves in the southern coastal waters of Cianjur, West Java, after the boat they were traveling in to fish was split into two parts.

The SAR team immediately conducted a search by doing a beach comb.

Secretary of the Cianjur BPBD, Rudi Wibowo, said the information obtained by the two fishermen, whose identities were not yet known, forced themselves to go to sea despite the extreme weather.

"The boat was split in two due to being hit by the waves, while the two fishermen who were on it were swept away by a fairly high wave. Previously, other fishermen had given warnings but allegedly the two fishermen did not hear them," he said in Cianjur, Antara, Thursday, August 4.

The two fishermen were reported missing in the waters of Ciujung, Kampung Padang Cikalapa, Jayagiri Village, Sindangbarang District, Cianjur. The officer who received the report immediately coordinated with the local authorities, including the Sindangbarang Police.

Sindangbarang Police Chief, Iptu Dadang Rustandi said that the fishermen's boats that had been torn apart had been found by residents who were looking for fish on the coast, not only the wrecks of the boats, the residents also found items allegedly from the boats scattered at a number of points.

"The boat that was split in two was found by residents with blue and white red stripes reading ILHAM 01, while the items suspected of being inside the boat were found scattered on the shores of Sereg and Apra," he said.

His party is trying to find information regarding the owner of the boat or the management of the Sindangbarang fishermen in order to obtain information regarding the two fishermen who were reported missing by the waves. Until Thursday evening the search was carried out by combing the coast.

"The information is that the two missing fishermen came from Ujung Genteng, Sukabumi. We and the joint SAR team have not been able to conduct a search to the center because the waves are still high and can threaten the safety of officers," he said.
