DENPASAR - The local government will close the Suwung Final Waste Processing Site (TPA) in Denpasar City, Bali, after the three Integrated Waste Processing Sites (TPST) built in the city operate.

"Astungkara in October has been able to operate, there are three TPSTs, so as soon as the TPSTs are operational, the TPAs will be closed," said Head of the Waste and Hazardous Waste Processing Division of the Denpasar City Environment and Hygiene Office, Ketut Adi Wiguna, as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, August 4.

"The stage is that the TPA will be closed before the G20 Summit," said Adi, adding that the peak of the G20 Summit is scheduled to take place in November 2022.

Furthermore, all waste will be handled at the Tahura, Kertalangu, and Padangsambian Kaja TPSTs, which are expected to be operational in early October 2022.

According to him, the waste entering the Suwung TPA, which covers an area of 32 hectares, averages about 800 tons per day and the three TPSTs being built by the government are designed to accommodate up to 1,020 tons of waste.

"With the technology, this is completed in each TPST. We have already conditioned the results later in the form of pellets, the provider will market it," said Adi at the Ubung Kaja Village Perbekel Office.

However, Adi has not been able to explain the plan to use the area of the former Suwung TPA after all waste processing has been transferred to the TPST.
