JAKARTA - Head of the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP2MI) Benny Rhamdani encourages collaborative efforts between ministries and agencies to provide protection in the crime of trafficking in persons (TPPO).

"As long as all ministries and institutions have a strong commitment not to allow crimes against humanity to occur, collaboration will be realized," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, August 1.

He explained that Indonesia has Law Number 21 of 2007 concerning the Eradication of the Crime of Trafficking in Persons (TPPO) to Presidential Regulation Number 22 of 2021 concerning the Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of the Crime of Trafficking in Persons.

"The mandate is binding on 24 ministries and institutions, BP2MI is only one of them," he said.

According to him, his institution continues to carry out massive socialization, actively disseminate information, embrace various parties to synergize, and collaborate.

"Preventing illegal placement of workers is not a difficult thing, it is a very easy thing, it just depends on the political will of all parties," he said.

This was conveyed by Benny regarding dozens of migrant workers held in Cambodia who were suspected of being victims of promotional fraud through social media.

"They departed unofficially, and are believed to be victims of fraud because they are not recorded in the Computerized System for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (SISKOP2MI)," he said.

Previously, the Cambodian Police together with the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh again succeeded in rescuing seven Indonesian citizens from the confinement of an Online Scammer Company in Sihanoukville, Cambodia (31/7).

This success increased the number of Indonesian citizens who could be saved to a total of 62 people based on information from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs received in Jakarta, Sunday (31/7).

The additional number of Indonesian citizens is based on further investigation from the Cambodian Police. Previously, on July 30, 2022, as many as 55 Indonesian citizens were successfully released by the Cambodian Police and the Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh.
