SUMBAR - World Tiger Day 2022 falls on Friday 29 July. The Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) of West Sumatra (West Sumatra) commemorated this by repainting the statue of a Sumatran tiger found in its territory.

Head of the Maninjau Natural Resources Conservation Resort (KSDA), Ade Putra, said the meaning of repainting the tiger statue was to restore the statue's existence to its original characteristics and style.

From the meaning raised, Ade hopes that the existence of the Sumatran tiger will be maintained in the wild with an increasing population.

"Hopefully the Sumatran tiger will be preserved and protected," he said in Lubukbasung, Agam, West Sumatra, Friday, July 29.

He added that the theme or moral message in this activity was to avoid the Sumatran tiger being the last tiger species in Indonesia.

In addition to repainting the three tiger statues, he added, his party also distributed leaflets to motorists about tiger conservation.

The leaflet contains information on animals that are protected by Law Number 5 of 1990 concerning Conservation of Biological Natural Resources and Their Ecosystems.

"The leaflets were distributed by students with tiger headdresses on their faces," he said.

He said that during the last three years more than 25 incidents of human conflict with Sumatran tigers and two tigers were successfully evacuated in Koto Rantang, Palupuh and Maua Hilia sub-districts, Nagari Salareh Aia, Palembayan sub-district.

This activity in the context of World Tiger Day or Global Tiger Day 2022 was also attended by members of the Agam Police, the general public, and students from Padang State University (UNP) and West Sumatra Muhammadiyah University (UMSB).

A UNP student, Fauzan, said this activity reminded the public about tigers. This is because the existence of the Sumatran tiger is threatened with extinction and the community participates in conservation.

"Preservation can be in the form of maintaining their habitat, not hunting and others," said Fauzan.
