JAKARTA - The phenomenon of snow dew or upas dew (frozen dew) due to the cold ambient temperature that occurs at the foot of Mount Semeru, precisely in Ranupani Village, Lumajang Regency, East Java, attracts tourists.

Cold air temperatures approaching 0 degrees Celsius that occurred in the Ranupani Village area, Senduro District, Lumajang Regency caused the frozen phenomenon which is also called upas dew.

"This phenomenon occurs almost every July to September because in that month the temperature in the Ranupani area approaches 0 degrees Celsius," she said.

According to her, the location of Ranunpai which is at an altitude of 2.300 meters above sea level also affects this natural phenomenon, so that the phenomenon of snow dew can be seen on flat land, around Lake Ranupani and Ranu Regulo.

"Even the snow dew covered the surrounding plants, so it looked like snow was covering the outskirts of Ranupani Village, which is at the foot of Mount Semeru," she said.

He explained that people who will see or enjoy the beauty of the snow dew phenomenon in Ranupani Village and its surroundings can come before sunrise, precisely at 05.00 a.m. local time.

"If you want to see plants covered in snow, you don't have to go far to New Zealand, tourists can come to Ranupani Village in Lumajang Regency," she said.

The hiking trail to Mount Semeru is still closed because the mountain which has a height of 3.676 meters above sea level is still on standby or level III in accordance with Volcanological Survey of Indonesia (PVMBG) recommendations.
