Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi Firmly Disbands Tunjungan Fashion Week, Different From Governor Anies At Citayam Fashion Week

SURABAYA - Cak Eri, Eri Cahyadi's nickname, acted decisively. Through Satpol PP, Tunjungan Fashion Week, which imitated Citayam Fashion Week in Dukuh Atas, Sudirman, Jakarta, was disbanded.

Not without reason. Mayor of Surabaya Eri Cahyadi has his own reasons, although he does not question the pros and cons of young teenagers' creations.

"But this is about the common good, the convenience of road users, and activities that do not cause congestion," said Eri Cahyadi, Monday, July 25.

“Similar programs can be carried out, for example during the car-free day, as a show of fashion creations for young people in Surabaya. It can also be held at Balai Pemuda and various green open spaces, while maintaining cleanliness and not damaging the park. Or on pedestrians with a scheduled and licensed concept so that it can be arranged so as not to reduce the comfort of the wider community," said Eri Cahyadi.

Eri Cahyadi hopes this kind of creation will not cause traffic jams because it is held during car-free days and in non-road public spaces.

"About the concept of the outfit, please be creative. However, it must continue to inspire, don't wear something ugly and disorderly, must also reflect the distinctive character of the Surabaya people, "said the Mayor of Surabaya.

Looking back, since November 2021, on Tunjungan Surabaya Street, the concept of "Tunjungan Romansa" has been launched. Space for the creation of art, culture, and the creative economy. Music, fashion, culinary, and various creations. Some are conceptualized in the pedestrian area, but they are organized and do not interfere with road users.

“In terms of fashion, the Surabaya City Government has also facilitated various performances, including regularly displaying local brands and MSMEs, through Surabaya Fashion Week and many more. Fashion design training is also carried out in order to grow reliable fashion designers from Surabaya. In fact, we are preparing a fashion writing workshop so that fashion trends in Surabaya can be spread widely and inspire through good communication models," said Eri Cahyadi.

In Jakarta Anies Says No One Prohibits

DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan emphasized that the Citayam Fashion Show, which is often held in the afternoon and into the evening at the zebra cross in the Dukuh Atas area, Sudirman, Central Jakarta, is not prohibited.

This contradicts the statement from the Central Jakarta City Government which stated that the "SCBD" youth catwalk (Sudirman, Citayam, Bojonggede, Depok) in the crossing area was prohibited.

"There is a decree, no? As long as there is no letter, then there is no ban," said Anies at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Friday, July 22.

Anies reiterated that there is no official regulation that prohibits activities such as fashion shows at the zebra cross.

"If there is a decree, it means it is a stipulation. If there is no decree, then it is not a provision. The country is regulated through regulations. As long as there are no regulations, there are no prohibitions," he said.

Previously, the Central Jakarta City Government strictly prohibited the "SCBD" youth trend fashion show from using a zebra cross in the Dukuh Atas area, Tanah Abang District, Central Jakarta.

"Don't make catwalks or fashion shows at the zebra cross. Everyone, please, obey the rules regarding the use of sidewalks," said Deputy Mayor of Central Jakarta, Irwandi when contacted by reporters, Thursday, July 21.

If allowed, Anies should see it again on the weekend, the Dukuh Atas area is crowded. Vehicles are difficult to move. Dominated by teenagers who are said to be expressing themselves.

Member of Commission III of the House of Representatives Eva Yuliana assessed that CFW is part of a creative community action that does not need to be disbanded as long as it does not violate the rules and disturb public order.

"In my opinion, it is a creativity of the nation's children which can then be enjoyed by the CFW community. As long as it does not disturb public facilities, why should it be disbanded. And as long as it does not violate the rules and disrupt traffic," Eva told VOI, Monday, 25 July.

However, the NasDem legislator for the Central Java electoral district agreed that events such as Citayam Fashion Week would be disbanded as long as they violated the Traffic Law. Moreover, CFW has sparked other regions to follow this trend.

"Unless it is done in places that interfere with traffic, interfere with the public interest, interfere with road users who are entitled to use the road and in accordance with the traffic law, when it interferes, it must be disbanded," said Eva.
