SAMPANG - The district government (Pemkab) of Sampang, Madura, East Java this year repaired 285 houses that were unfit for habitation in an effort to reduce poverty.

Head of the Housing Division of the Sampang Regency Government's Public Housing and Settlement Area (DPRKP) Abdul Rokib in Sampang, Friday, said the 285 houses that were unfit for habitation were spread over four villages in two sub-districts.

"Each one is in Kadungdung District and Banyuates District," he said, as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, July 22.

In Kedungdung Sub-district, assistance for repairing uninhabitable houses in two villages, namely Pasarengan and Palenggian, while in Banyuates sub-district was spread out in Talon and West Palangaran villages.

Abdul Rokit said that initially the Sampang Regency Government proposed 643 houses of residents that were not suitable for habitation to get central government assistance for repairs.

However, in its development, only 285 houses received assistance, because the allocation of funds available from the government was limited.

"Thus, there are still 385 uninhabitable housing units in Sampang that have not received assistance," he said.

Abdul Rokit explained that the amount of assistance was Rp. 20 million, consisting of Rp. 17.5 million for the purchase of building materials and Rp. 2.5 million for construction costs.

"This program is a program to handle extreme poverty launched by the government in order to reduce poverty and restore the economy of residents due to COVID-19," he said.
