JAKARTA - The Attorney General's Office (AGO) has named five suspects in the alleged criminal act of corruption at the blast furnace steel smelter by PT Krakatau Steel. One of them has the status of a city prisoner, namely former president director Fazwar Bujang.

Fazwar Bujang, who served as president director of PT Krakatau Steel for the 2017-2012 period, was under city arrest for 20 days because he was sick.

"For the reason that he (Fazwar) is 74 years old, he is sick," said the Head of the Legal Information Center (Kapuspenkum) at the Attorney General's Office, Ketut Sumedana, as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 19.

Meanwhile, two other suspects were detained at the Salemba Rutan at the AGO Branch, namely Andi Soko Setiabudi as Deputy Director of Strategic Projects for PT Krakatau Steel for the 2010-2012 period and Muhammad Reza as Project Manager for PT Krakatau Engineering for the 2013-2016 period.

Furthermore, the remaining two suspects were detained at the Salemba Class I Rutan, Central Jakarta, namely Bambang Purnomo as President Director of PT Krakatau Engineering for the 2012-2015 period and Hernanto Wiryomijoyo alias Raden Hernanto as Head of the 2011 Blast Furnace Project Preparation and Implementation Team as well as General Manager of PT Project Krakatau Steel for the period 2013-2019.

Sumedana explained that the reason for granting city detention status to suspect Fazwar Bujang was due to the health condition and age factor concerned.

According to him, the results of an examination by a team of doctors at Adhyaksa Hospital, Monday (18/7), stated that Fazwar was not in a proper condition to be detained at the detention house. However, Ketut did not elaborate on the illness that Fazwar Bujang was suffering from.

"The person concerned does not deserve to be detained at the detention center, so the option is house arrest," he continued.

The suspects were charged with Article 2 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 18 of the Corruption Eradication Law. In this case, the AGO has examined 119 witnesses and confiscated documents related to BFC project planning, procurement of BFC projects, payments to vendors, bank financing syndication, as well as other related documents. Meanwhile, searches were carried out at the offices of PT Krakatau Steel in Cilegon, Banten, and PT. Krakatau Engineering.

Previously, in a press conference video release in Jakarta, Monday, July 18, Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin said PT Krakatau Steel in 2007 approved the procurement of the BFC factory with the winning contractors being MCC CERI consortium and PT Krakatau Engineering, which is a subsidiary of PT Krakatau Steel. However, the procurement was carried out against the law.

"What should have been MCC CERI did the construction as well as the financing, but in reality it was financed by a domestic consortium or Himbara (State-Owned Bank Association) with a contract value for the construction of the BFC factory with a ready-made system, in accordance with the initial contract of IDR 4.7 trillion until the 4th addendum. swelled to Rp 6.9 trillion," said Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin.

The alleged corruption case caused state losses of Rp 6.9 trillion according to the financing issued by the Himbara consortium.
