JAKARTA - The Democratic Party has asked the Regent of Central Mamberamo Ricky Ham Pagawak (RHP) who is suspected of fleeing to Papua New Guinea when he was about to be forcibly picked up by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to resolve the issue.

The party, which is chaired by Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, appealed to Ricky, who is its cadre, to face the legal process at the KPK with chivalry.

"In accordance with ethics and political advice as a cadre of the Democratic Party, Mr. RHP must face the legal process he is currently facing in a chivalrous manner," said Deputy for Bappilu DPP PD, Kamhar Lakumani to reporters, Sunday, July 17.

"If the information is true that he fled to PNG, then we remind you that running away will not solve the problem, it will only increase the problem," he continued.

Kamhar emphasized that the Democratic Party highly respects and upholds the legal process.

Therefore, he reminded the Regent of Memberamo to cooperate with the legal process at the KPK.

"The Democratic Party is fully aware that a healthy and strong democracy requires the law as a commander that is non-negotiable. Everyone is equal before the law and no one is above the law," said Kamhar.

In fact, he said, since the era of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) as the chairman of PD, no cadre has ever been tolerated if he was exposed to a corruption case. Likewise when PD was led by Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY).

"This has been exemplified during the leadership of Pak SBY when he was President and Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Democratic Party who did not tolerate law violations, let alone criminal acts of corruption committed by cadres, even though there were no exceptions to the main party cadres. Therefore, Kamhar hopes that Ricky can immediately fulfill the KPK's call.

He stressed that the Democratic Party would monitor the process.

"We hope that he will heed and attend to the KPK's summons. We will monitor it so that the legal process is professional and fair," he concluded.

Previously, the Regent of Central Mamberamo Ricky Ham Pagawak allegedly fled to Papua New Guinea when he was about to be forcibly picked up by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

Ricky is a suspect in the alleged bribery and gratification case in the implementation of various projects in the Central Mamberamo District Government, Papua Province.

Acting KPK Spokesperson for the Enforcement Sector Ali Fikri said that there were criminal threats for all parties who obstructed the investigation, in this case helping Ricky to escape.

"We remind anyone that the law is prohibited from obstructing the investigation process that we are currently carrying out because it is punishable by crime, as stated in Article 21 of the Corruption Act," said Ali in his statement, Saturday, July 16.

Ali also asked all people who know about Ricky's whereabouts to inform the KPK and the authorities to arrest the suspect.

"The community also hopes that the eradication of corruption can be carried out effectively and efficiently while still upholding the principle of justice so that the alleged corruption crime can be immediately proven and provide legal certainty to the suspect," said Ali.

Ali said that the KPK also invited Ricky to convey his legal rights in front of the investigative team, so that the handling of this case could be resolved immediately.
