Evacuation Team Trying To Save A Baby Elephant That Falls Into A Hole, Its Mother Comes And There's A Dramatic Rescue

JAKARTA - A dramatic rescue occurred in Thailand. When the team tried to evacuate a baby elephant that had fallen into the hole, the mother panicked.

The baby elephant initially fell into a drain on the outskirts of the Royal Hills golf course in Nakhon Nayok province in the early hours of Wednesday July 14 morning, according to The Guardian.

The distressed mother, believed to be from a herd of elephants traveling through a nearby forest, lives with her baby.

The baby elephant was trapped unable to climb out of the steep hole.

The pair were spotted by a passerby, who quickly alerted wildlife officials and Khao Yai National Park authorities of the pachyderm's plight.

The rescue team was initially unable to help the baby elephant due to the presence of its worried mother. If you are approached, you might even worry that you will get angry.

They finally tried to calm the mother elephant by being sedated. Problems arise again because the drug reacts right in front of the hole so that the mother half of her body even falls.

Veterinarians and park staff involve the use of boom lifts, diggers and other heavy equipment.

The rescue came amid heavy rain in central Nakhon Nayok province.

Rescuers used a truck-mounted boom lift to pull the mother out before climbing on top of her to perform simultaneous cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as the diggers cleared the ground.

It took more than three hours for the team to complete the operation.

Sky News reports that Dr Chananya Kanchanasarak, Khao Yai National Parks Department veterinarian, said: "It was impossible to get close to the baby while the mother was nearby, so we gave him three doses of sedative but he moved towards the baby before passing out," he said.
