Yogya Tourism Is Re-emerging, Nearly 1 Million Tourists Come During The Month Of June

JAKARTA - Yogyakarta City Tourism Office recorded an increase in tourist arrivals throughout June compared to the previous two months, which reached almost one million tourists and the number is likely to increase this month.

"The number of tourist visits throughout June is quite high and may still increase in July because there is still a school holiday in the first week", said the Head of Tourism Marketing Division of the Yogyakarta City Tourism Office, Andrini Wiramawati, in Yogyakarta, Friday, July 15, quoted from Antara.

Tourist visits to Yogyakarta City in April were recorded at 268,831 people, increasing to 806,942 tourists in May, and 900,665 tourists in June.

Meanwhile, regarding the number of tourists visiting during school holidays, Andrini said he did not have exact data because the count of tourist visits was carried out monthly.

The calculation of the number of tourist visits is based on the number of visits to hotels and tourist objects.

In 2022, the Yogyakarta City Tourism Office targets a total tourist visit of 1.4 million people, an increase compared to the total tourist arrivals of 1.1 million people in the previous year.

Nevertheless, there are differences in the pattern of calculating tourist visits in 2021 which is carried out annually and 2022 is carried out monthly.

The change in the calculation method is intended so that the government can take appropriate and fast policies and strategies for tourism development in the city.

The tourism development strategy that will be carried out this year includes intensifying the promotion and development of tourist attractions.

Previously, the Chairperson of the DPD Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) of Yogyakarta, Deddy Pranawa Eryana, said hotel occupancy in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) reached 90 percent for five-star hotels during school holidays.

As for non-star hotels, the occupancy varies between around 50 percent for regencies outside Sleman Regency and Yogyakarta City and 70 percent for Sleman and Yogyakarta.

PHRI DIY said that the hotel had operationalized all rooms during school holidays because Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) level one applies.
