MALUKU - The Tanimbar Islands Regency Disaster Management Implementation Unit (Satlak) (KKT) said dozens of houses in Ilngei Village were damaged due to abrasion and high waves accompanied by strong winds that recently hit.

"The natural disaster occurred on June 16, 2022, and initially only three houses were affected," said Head of the Disaster Management Unit for Tanimbar Islands Regency, Maluku, Bruno Layan, quoted by Antara, Thursday, July 14.

He said extreme weather conditions had not changed for several days. After more than a week, the number of houses affected by abrasion and high waves increased by 13 units.

According to him, abrasion and high waves also caused heavy damage to the coastal barrier built by the Public Works Department, causing seawater to enter residential areas and inundate dozens of Ilngei residents' houses.

"For the urgent needs of residents, of course, there has been coordination with related agencies, such as the social and health services," he said.

He said there was also assistance from residents around Saumlaki and the local district dharma woman.

He added that the Bina Marga Office and BPBD had also carried out a review, survey and verification as needed for further processing.
