Plan For Segregation Of Seating In Angkot Canceled, Deputy Governor Of DKI: More Female Passengers

JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria explained the reason why the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government canceled the plan to separate male and female seats in city transportation (angkot) and Microtrans.

This plan was originally a way for the DKI Provincial Government to prevent sexual harassment. Implementing a women-only room on Transjakarta buses, so the separation of seats in angkot was chosen as the solution.

"In Transjakarta, it's already been separated. Women are in the front, men are at the back. We wanted to apply this in angkot," said Riza in the Tebet area, South Jakarta, Wednesday, July 13.

However, Riza admitted that his party received reactions and input from a number of parties. Apparently, public transportation passengers in Jakarta are mostly female. It is feared that female passengers will find it difficult to find available angkot seats.

"Based on input from various parties including the community, it turns out that there are more women who use public transportation. So, if separated, it will be a pity that women have more limited places. In fact, there are more women than men," he explained.

Therefore, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government uses other methods to deal with and prevent sexual harassment in public transportation from happening again. This was revealed by the Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Service, Syafrin Liputo.

One way is to review the plan for the procurement of city transportation (angkot) specifically for women. "DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency will make comprehensive regulations for angkot and public transportation in Jakarta, including further reviewing ideas related to angkot or microtrans specifically for women," said Syafrin.

In addition, Syafrin also requires every public transportation in Jakarta to put a sticker showing the emergency number as a complaint of harassment, 112, in a place that is clearly visible to all passengers.

The DKI Provincial Government will also refine the current SOP regarding handling emergencies, to adapt to the needs of preventing and handling incidents of harassment, by prioritizing the protection of victims.
