JAKARTA - The 15 crew members of KM Setia Makmur who drowned in the Arafura Sea or Arafuru Sea are still being sought.

Head of Public Relations of the Papuan Police Kombes Ahmad Musthofa Kamal said the sinking of KM Setia Makmur 06 was first reported to the Merauke Search and Rescue office on Saturday, July 2 evening.

"In his report, Haryanto explained that this ship had sunk since July 2 in the morning at around 01.00 WIT at coordinates 08°.28'.00'' S - 136°.35'.00'' E or a distance of 426 km towards west of the Merauke pier," said Kombes Kamal in a written statement.

This incident was later reported by another fishing boat around the location to the ship's management in Dobo .

"By the ship's management, this information was then forwarded to Haryanto who was in Merauke to be reported to the Merauke Search and Rescue Office," he explained.

According to the ship's letter, this squid fishing boat carried 25 crew members. The ship departed from Dobo Pier on June 24 for the Arafura Sea. It was reported that ten crew members survived and were at KM Sinar Mas 01.

In the SAR operation the fourth day of the search has not yielded results.

"Until 18.00 WIT, the search at the location has not yielded any results and given the very limited visibility, the search and rescue operation has been temporarily suspended today to continue tomorrow," said Kombes Kamal.
