PALEMBANG - The Forensic Laboratory Team (Labfor) of the South Sumatra Police (Sumsel) secured a burnt electrical device at the Siloam Sriwijaya Hospital, Jalan POM IX, Ilir Barat I, Palembang.

The Head of the Sub-Division of Computer Physics, Bid Labfor Polda Sumsel Kompol Ari Hartawan at the location, said the electrical devices that were secured were one unit of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) and one Stavolt.

The device was secured by the police along with a pack of charcoal ash from the fire from the obstetrics outpatient room on the second floor of the hospital, for further examination at the South Sumatra Police Labfor.

"This is a device to turn on medical equipment in a burning hospital room. We cannot conclude now, the results of the Labfor examination will be announced at least in the next two weeks," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 5.

In addition to examining the results of the crime scene, he said, criminal investigators also examined witnesses so that later they could lead to conclusions about the cause of the fire.

Monitoring at the location of the Labfor team's investigation lasted for more than an hour when they arrived at the location from 10.38 WIB accompanied by the Palembang Police Satreskrim and the Ilir Barat I Police Criminal Investigation Unit.

The Labfor team, which consisted of more than three people, carefully inspected the fire point in the obstetric outpatient poly room on the second floor of Siloam Sriwijaya Hospital.

Iptu Apriansyah, Head of Reskirm of the West Ilir Police, said that the temporary suspicion that the fire that occurred Monday (4/7) night at around 21.00 WIB was due to a short circuit in the transition from the generator to the PLN electricity.

At the time of the incident, almost the entire area of the city of Palembang experienced a PLN blackout.

"The transfer of electric current from the generator to PLN triggers medical devices in the form of ultrasound to sag (melt) and a fire occurs because the ultrasound device requires a large voltage. But we are waiting for the results of the Labfor team," he said, several witnesses were also under police investigation.

The police confirmed that there were no fatalities from the fire and that the operation of medical services at Siloam Sriwijaya Hospital had returned to normal.
