JAKARTA - Head of the Center for Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis (PPATK), Ivan Yustiavandana, advised the public to be wiser in donating.

According to IVan, this good intention needs to be considered in the choice of platforms in distributing donations, either online, or directly to the manager. It must be known correctly, accurately and reliably.

"There are indications of alleged misappropriation of the use of the funds received. This has been detected from the public and other parties. The report was submitted by the Financial Services Provider/PJK to PPATK," said Ivan as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 5.

Based on the results of research conducted by the World Giving Index Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) 2021, Indonesia is the most generous country.

This is in line with the online donation data released by one of the online fundraising and donation platforms in Indonesia, that throughout 2021 there were more than 3 million donors who donated to available applications.

The participation carried out by many people is channeled to 36,000 social fundraising activities or programs, to help and ease the burden on communities in need, such as victims of natural disasters, education, housing, and other social and humanitarian programs.

Ivan appealed to donors to be more careful, because it is very possible that the donations submitted can be misused by individuals for bad purposes.

According to him, there are several other modes that have been found by PPATK, including collecting donations through a charity box located at the cashier of a shopping store, whose identity is unclear and accountability cannot be accounted for.

Donating and sharing is encouraged by all religious teachings, but donors should be careful in choosing where or through what institution the donation will be distributed.

Some things that people must pay attention to if they want to donate both online and in person are getting to know the institution or community that does fundraising and donations. The public can see the credibility of the institution or community through the Ministry of Social's database, whether it has been registered or not, as well as the names of the managers.

The public can also see the availability of information and publication channels from these fundraisers and donations such as websites, social media, and other official and verified publication channels.

The public can access various information related to financial reports and comprehensive accountability reports by fundraisers and donations through official channels, such as through the website or in other forms that can be accessed widely by the public.

Usually some good reports have been audited by public accountants.

The community should also try to cross-check one of the programs that are being funded and donated, which may be around us, such as visiting the program, or getting information through valid secondary sources of information.

"Through this effort, the community can check the correctness of the program, and can ask further questions about the program being promoted, whether it has been running properly or if there are discrepancies found," he said.
