Don't Let Cannabis Fields Appear In Cianjur Perhutani Land

JAKARTA - Cianjur Police, West Java, together with Perum Perhutani Cianjur formed a joint team to search Mount Karuhun, Cipetir Village, Campaka District, which was used as a 10-hectare marijuana field, to ensure that no other land was planted.

Cianjur Police Chief AKBP Doni Hermawan said a joint team was formed to comb all Perhutani land in Cianjur, so that it would not be misused by irresponsible people because the total land owned was 7,700 hectares spread over a number of sub-districts.

"We agreed to form a joint team to re-comb Mount Karuhun which is used as a marijuana field. The lack of personnel from Perhutani needs assistance so that we will carry out joint operations so that no more land is planted with marijuana," said AKBP Doni as quoted by Antara, Friday, June 1 .

He explained that the size of the land owned and the lack of personnel had made his party hold various joint activities including joint operations to comb all the land as an effort to anticipate being used as marijuana fields.

The acting Perhutani Administrator, Cianjur Rusliadi, said that with the presence of the joint team, it is hoped that there will be no more land belonging to Perhutani that is used as a place to plant prohibited plants.

"Not only Gunung Karuhun, the joint team of Perhutani and the Cianjur Police will explore other lands belonging to Perhutani. The joint team will also explore all lands belonging to Perhutani, a total of 7,700 hectares spread over sub-districts in Cianjur," he said.

So far, he said, it was difficult for his party to carry out surveillance in a number of existing protected forests because each Forest Management Unit (KPH) only had a few forest police personnel, while the land being monitored was more than 1,000 hectares.

He gave an example for Mount Karuhun which is included in the Cikondang KPH with an area of 1,700 hectares, there are only 6 officers so it is possible that the officers did not know there was a marijuana field in a location that is difficult to reach and residents rarely pass because it is located on a steep cliff.

"We hope that with the joint team, maximum monitoring can be carried out, including we will involve the surrounding community so that no more Perhutani land is planted with prohibited plants such as those found in Gunung Karuhun, Campaka District," he said.
