Pancasila House Asks Police Not Only To Be Able To Read Articles

JAKARTA - The founder of the Pancasila House, Yosep Parera, said that a police officer should not only be able to read the articles in the legislation. However, he said, he was able to apply the rule of law properly.

"The police must be able to enforce the law within the framework of Pancasila and humanity," said Yosep in Semarang, Central Java, quoted from Antara, Friday, July 1.

Currently, according to him, many members of the National Police only understand the laws and regulations but do not know how to implement them.

Therefore, he said, the National Police Chief could make a breakthrough by adding the application of the values of Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia to the police.

"Morality and spirituality will be an added value for members of the Police," he said.

Yosep said that openness to criticism and input from the public is now a positive thing for the police.

He considers that openness to criticism and input is better than other law enforcers.

However, he said, there are still some things that need improvement, such as a more thorough application of restorative justice.

"For example, the application of restorative justice to cases faced by people with low economic standards is still rare and not done immediately," he said.
