Only Gunung Antang, A Prostitution Area That Stands On East Jakarta KAI's Land

JAKARTA – The existence of the Gunung Antang localization next to Matraman Station has been around for many years. A public policy observer, Azas Tigor Nainggolan said the localization of Mount Antang reminded him of a memory of a train station in East Jakarta flanked by prostitution sites.

According to Azas Tigor, Jatinegara Station, East Jakarta was once flanked by the localization of Cipinang and Tengseng prostitution. Likewise with Tugu Station in Yogyakarta, next to it there is a prostitution location called Pasar Kembang.

"But now all the prostitution locations next to the train station have been dismantled and cleaned so that the stations are more comfortable and safe," said Azas Tigor when contacted, Tuesday, June 28.

Tigor believes that PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) and the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government should immediately dismantle and clean up the Gunung Antang prostitution site in East Jakarta.

"For the convenience and security of the Matraman Station next door and for the lives of the residents of Matraman," he said.

Azas stated that if the Gunung Antang localization is not immediately cleaned up, then the prostitution location of Gunung Antang will cause problems of crime and inconvenience for Matraman Station users.

"We are waiting for the courage and professionalism of the Jakarta Government and PT KAI," he said.

Furthermore, Azas Tigor explained, the existence of the Gunung Antang prostitution area located along the Matraman area has been around for decades. In fact, according to information obtained by Azas, the localization of Gunung Antang prostitution in the Matraman area, East Jakarta, has existed since the 1970s.

Residents around the Gunung Antang localization, continued Azas, had protested hundreds of times to the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) to dismantle and clean up the Gunung Antang prostitution site.

"The existence of the Gunung Antang prostitution site has been protested too often because it creates criminal, security and social problems for the surrounding residents. But the Gunung Antang prostitution location still exists because there are many thugs in uniform protecting because they have illegal businesses," he explained.

It should be noted that PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) is targeting the demolition of the Gunung Antang prostitution site, Matraman District, East Jakarta in July.

A number of illegal buildings will be made public facilities, one of which is the Green Open Space (RTH). Currently, PT KAI is still coordinating with the East Jakarta City Government regarding the plan to control or demolish the Gunung Antang localization.

"Hopefully, this July target can be completed," said Head of Public Relations of PT KAI Daop 1, Eva Chairunisa to reporters, last Thursday, June 23.
