JAKARTA - Wahid Foundation Director Yenny Wahid said Indonesian leaders must be able to answer three major challenges, namely technology, ecology, and ideology, in realizing Indonesia's ideals of becoming an independent, united, sovereign, just and prosperous country.

"In the context of national politics, it doesn't matter who the presidential candidate is, the important thing is that together we can answer these three big challenges. Well, that's my position there," said Yenny when she was a resource person in the public discussion "Grand Design Politics and National Leadership" reported by Antara, Monday, June 27.

He explained that the technological challenges faced by Indonesia include efforts to prevent other countries from being left behind in terms of using technology and the ability to educate the public, so that they can communicate well in the digital world.

In addition, he continued, Indonesia is also faced with the problem of the disappearance of several jobs due to technological sophistication, such as the work of public telephone service providers who have disappeared due to the presence of smart phones.

Meanwhile, regarding ecological challenges, Yenny said it was related to climate change and some people who have lost their homes due to conflict, war, or natural resource problems, such as dry water.

Regarding the current ideological challenges, the second daughter of the 4th President Abdurrahman Wahid or Gus Dur said Indonesia needs to face efforts to prevent the spread of transnational ideology that tries to replace Pancasila.

Yenny Wahid also reminded the Indonesian people that the purpose of politics in the country is to choose a leader and a government system that is able to make the people feel happy and prosperous.

In addition, leaders and government systems also need to make Indonesia an independent, sovereign country, and even play a big role in world politics. President Joko Widodo, who is scheduled to visit Russia and Ukraine, has exemplified this big role in world politics.

"As President Jokowi is currently doing, he stopped by Ukraine and Russia, the aim was to try to reconcile. Why should we try to reconcile? Because the effects of the current conflict with globalization are not limited to Russia and Ukraine, the impact is also on us," he said.
