PAPUA - The Jayawijaya Regency Government has asked the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) to increase training for its members to be able to produce professionals in the field of search and rescue.

Assistant II for General Administration Lekius Yikwa said Jayawijaya was one of the disaster-prone areas so that reliable search and rescue personnel were needed.

This was conveyed by Lekius when opening the training for potential medical first responder SAR (MFR) at Ukumiarek Asso, Jayawijaya, quoted from Antara, Monday 27 June.

"As input, I hope that trainings like this need to be carried out frequently in order to increase the capacity and professionalism of the Wamena SAR Team's human resources," he said.

He added that Jayawijaya, which is surrounded by the Baliem River, has a high risk of flooding. Conditions can be exacerbated if the intensity of heavy rain occurs.

"Given the dependence of the community, where participants who come from various organizations and fields of work that are part of the community are around so that they can immediately carry out first aid to disaster victims in the vicinity," he said.

Therefore, Lekius appealed to the participants to take the six-day training organized by the Jayapura Basarnas seriously.

"After participating in the training, you become a human resource with the potential for search and help, able to apply all the theories and skills acquired during the training for operational technical needs in the field when needed," he said.
