MALANG - The Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) launched an empowerment program for 2,500 Beneficiary Families (KPM) for the Family Hope Program (PKH) in the Greater Malang area.

Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini said that his party was collaborating with Bank Indonesia (BI) in an effort to strengthen the economy of KPM PKH in Malang City, Malang Regency and Batu City so that their welfare increased.

"I hope that they will no longer receive assistance, because, once again, if they receive assistance it is only Rp. 200,000. But if they try, their capacity will be much larger," said Risma as quoted by Antara, Saturday, June 25.

The empowerment is intended for PKM KPH which is targeted at 2,500 beneficiaries in Malang Raya. The program, which was initiated by member of Commission XI DPR Andreas Eddy Susetyo, aims to encourage financial independence and gradually improve family welfare.

He added that later the Ministry of Social Affairs would provide support in the form of equipment to start a business for thousands of KPM PKH in the Greater Malang area. Local governments are also expected to jointly encourage the program.

"We may be able to support the equipment. The role of the regional government is also needed with us, for example for licensing, it will go down with us later. This cannot be done alone," he said.

Meanwhile, Andreas Eddy Susetyo, said that his party together with BI did have a number of programs to support MSMEs. These programs aim to improve the welfare of the community.

"In the past, if we only relied on social assistance, our purchasing power would not increase. Therefore, how can we increase this purchasing power," he said.

According to him, collaboration is needed to help the community's economic growth. Because, if people's purchasing power increases and can be maintained, then economic growth will also increase.

"I really believe that with the existing experience, we can accelerate it. I hope that in Malang Raya, poverty will decrease," he said.

The launch of the program was carried out in a hybrid manner by presenting 500 direct beneficiaries and 1,000 direct beneficiaries.

In addition to the launch of KPM empowerment, the Ministry of Social Affairs also held a briefing to PKH assistants throughout Malang Raya. The activity was also filled with socialization steps for Love, Proud, Understanding (CBP) Rupiah, QRIS Socialization and Inclusive Finance and others.
