8 People Died After Drinking Oplosan Alcohol Rp25,000/Bottle In Karawang, 3 People Become Suspects

KARAWANG - The Karawang Regency Police, West Java, have named three suspects for selling and mixing mixed liquor that resulted in the deaths of eight people in the Palumbonsari area of East Karawang.

"So we have arrested three suspects. Their role is that two of them are sellers, and one other person who mixes," said Head of the Karawang Police Narcotics Unit, AKP Edi Nurdin Masa in Karawang, West Java, Antara, Friday, June 24.

The three suspects each had the initials Y and D as a liquor salesman, and R as a liquor maker. The evidence confiscated was self-concocted liquor which was sold at a price of Rp. 25,000 per bottle.

The perpetrators mixed the mixed liquor with gallon water, citron, granulated sugar, mulky, and fragrance ingredients.

To account for his actions, the suspect is subject to Article 204 of the Criminal Code which carries a penalty of 15 years and 20 years or life imprisonment.

In addition, there is also another article, namely Article 62 paragraph 1 or paragraph 3 in conjunction with Article 8 Number 8 of 1999 concerning consumer protection with a penalty of five years in prison.

Previously, it was reported that eight residents of Karawang died from drinking mixed liquor in Palubonsari Village, East Karawang District, Karawang.

Generally, the victims experience vomiting after drinking mixed liquor, and die while being treated at the hospital.
